Troubleshooting

No visitor data showing

Ensure trackVisitors is enabled in settings. Visitor tracking only works on front-end requests, not control panel pages. Also check that the visitorTimeout setting isn’t set too low.

System metrics not collecting

Ensure trackServerMetrics is enabled. Metrics collection requires queue jobs to be running — set up a cron job to run php craft queue/run every 1–2 minutes. On macOS, metrics use sysctl; on Linux, they read from /proc.

High database load

If Control Tower is adding too much database overhead, try increasing the metricsPollingInterval, reducing refreshInterval, or lowering retention days to keep tables smaller.

Editor collisions not detecting

Collision detection requires trackEditors and the seeded “Multiple editors on same entry” alert rule (or an equivalent rule on the editor_collisions metric) to be enabled. Collisions are only detected when two editors are actively working on the same element within the editorTimeout window.

Alerts not firing

Alerts are driven by user-defined rules in Control Tower → Alert Rules. Check that:

  • The rule for the metric you expect is enabled and has a sensible threshold.
  • The queue is running — alert checks and notification dispatch both run as queue jobs.
  • If you have a minNotifyInterval set on the rule, the alert may still be visible in the CP but suppressed from re-notifying within the throttle window.

Webhook deliveries failing

Open the webhook in Control Tower → Webhooks and click Send test. The response status is reported inline so you can confirm the URL is reachable and the receiver accepts the payload. Slack and Teams require an Incoming Webhook URL (Slack) or a Power Automate / Adaptive Cards connector URL (Teams). Generic JSON works with Zapier, IFTTT, n8n, and any HTTPS endpoint that accepts a POST body.

Notification emails not arriving

Per-rule email recipients are sent via Craft’s configured mailer through the SendAlertNotificationJob queue job. Confirm the queue is running, verify your Craft mail settings, and check the rule has either Notify admins on or one or more addresses in the Additional emails field.
